1795: Eli Whitney perfects the cotton gin

Cotton!   Eli Whitney, inventor of the cotton gin, perfected his invention at a plantation on Upton Creek, owned by Phineas Miller, in his log workshop in 1795. The cotton gin enabled large scale commercialization of cotton by easily removing the seeds, previously performed by hand.
